The Young Scholars Conference

Conference Coordinator

Brought to you by the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity & the Graduate Women in Science + Engineering (GWiSE @ Brown University)

Each Young Scholars Conference aims to provide guidance and support for science graduate students and post-doctoral researchers as they prepare to enter the academic workforce. I was the student conference coordinator for the most recent conference titled, Atoms, Axons, and Asteroids: Big Data in STEM held October 6-7, 2017.

Student Speaker

2017's theme Breaking Barriers represents the discrete obstacles to progress in many contexts; by identifying and challenging these barriers, we hope to inspire our audience members and community to push their envelopes and reexamine issues through new lenses. Event: November 18, 2017

In this talk I share my experience with hearing loss and how despite this causing a unique and particularly challenging start academically I concentrate on the beautiful aspects of this life journey. My relationship with literacy, language and music has been profoundly influenced by deaf beginnings.

s4 gis institute

Fellow Summer 2015

The GIS Institute is an intensive two-week course focused on visualization, management, and analysis of geographic data. The Institute is a partnership between S4, the Brown University LibrariesEarthLab, and the Population Studies and Training Center

This institute was my first formal exposure to a field I would quickly fall in love with and would guide  future research and doctoral ambitions! My first project was naturally very elementary but involved mapping migraine incidence and hospital facilities.
